About United Methodist Women
|
United Methodist Women (UMW, recently renamed United Women in Faith) is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. The UMW/United Women in Faith fosters spiritual growth, develops leaders and advocates for justice.
UMW/United Women in Faith is the country’s largest denominational faith organization for women with approximately 800,000 members. Members raise up to $20 million each year for programs and projects related to women, children, and youth in the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world. |
UMW at National UMC in Washington DC
The UMW at National United Methodist Church is a community of almost 200 women of all ages and interests. We achieve our purpose by working for justice through service and advocacy. Our members are concerned about issues affecting the well-being of women and children. We invite experts to speak to our group about education, immigration, homelessness, human trafficking and other issues.
Our unit supports missionaries around the world and works to educate local members on the needs of the global community. When legislative issues arise that pertain to our core issues, we make our voices known through letter writing, protests and lobbying.
We are engaged in helping our local community through our annual Great Day of Service, when we collect food, make health kits, and work on other activities to help those in need.
Nurturing one’s faith is one of the focuses of the United Methodist Women, and National UMC’s UMW provides a number of opportunities to grow closer to God and develop spiritually during each person’s faith journeys.
Members participate as at-large members or as part of small groups, which we call circles. Our seven circles meet for fellowship, mutual support, study, devotion and mission work. Circles are self-selected based on interests, spiritual desires and stages-of-life. There’s something for everyone. More information about our circles is on the UMW page of the National UMC website.
We are always happy to meet new women who are interested in UMW or National UMC. Contact us to learn more about faith, hope and love in action!
